Who we are
Punta Gallinas Tours is Expotur Eco's tour brand specialized in Alta Guajira (Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas, Colombia), with departures from Riohacha.
Expotur Eco collects payment for, and operates, the services booked on this site. Its customer service details are:
- Office: Cra 5 #3A-02, Riohacha, La Guajira, Colombia
- Customer service channels: the WhatsApp number and the form on our contact page
In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Expotur Eco, and “you” or “the traveler” means the person who uses the site or books a service.
What these terms cover
These terms apply to:
- use of the Spanish, English and French versions of puntagallinastours.com;
- booking and delivery of the tours: the Cabo de la Vela Tour 2 Days, the Punta Gallinas Tour 3 Days and the Punta Gallinas Tour 4 Days, which leave from Riohacha, and the tours that leave from Santa Marta to Ciudad Perdida, Minca and Tayrona National Park;
- private 4×4 transport between Riohacha, Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas, which is quoted separately on WhatsApp or through the form.
By booking, you accept these terms, the booking policy and the description of the service on its page: itinerary, what is included and what is not. If two conditions contradict each other, the one more favorable to you applies, as established by Article 34 of Law 1480 of 2011, Colombia's Consumer Protection Statute (Estatuto del Consumidor).
The services
The La Guajira tours are private and priced per person according to the number of travelers in the booking (1 to 6 or more); the “from” price applies to groups of 6 or more. The Santa Marta tours are group tours with a fixed price per person.
The La Guajira tours leave Riohacha at 8:30 a.m., and the Ciudad Perdida, Minca and Tayrona National Park tours leave from Santa Marta; the meeting point is on each tour page.
What each tour includes is listed on its page. On the La Guajira tours, that means transport by 4×4 with air conditioning, the meals and lodging shown there, a driver-guide and medical assistance insurance during the tour.
The La Guajira tours are led by local driver-guides who speak Spanish. A translator is not included. If you need English during the trip, tell us when you book, and we will tell you what is possible on your date.
On the La Guajira tours, nights are spent in chinchorro hammocks in Wayuu rancherías (settlements). Sleeping in a bed costs extra and depends on availability.
Sandboarding on the Taroa dunes is offered subject to availability at an extra cost.
Prices, booking and payment
Prices are in Colombian pesos (COP) per person, taxes included, as required by Article 26 of Law 1480 of 2011. USD and EUR amounts are for reference only.
To book, you pay a deposit of 7% of the total, or the full amount if you prefer. The balance is due before or at the start of the tour, depending on the tour; on the La Guajira tours, it can be paid in cash or by payment link. Once the deposit is paid, the booking is “pending confirmation,” and an advisor confirms it within 12 hours.
If online payment is not active for the tour you choose, the tour page lets you send a booking request: nothing is charged when you send it, and an advisor replies with availability and how to pay the deposit.
Published prices for the La Guajira tours are valid until December 31, 2026. Details on the deposit, the balance, confirmation and payment methods are in the booking policy.
Cancellations, changes and refunds
No penalty if you cancel or change until 5:00 p.m. (Colombia time) on the business day before departure; after that, a 20% penalty on the total. No refund once the tour has started.
The cancellations and changes section of the booking policy gives an example of the deadline and explains changes to the date or the number of travelers, and what to do if you will be late or cannot travel.
Right of withdrawal and payment reversal
Bookings made on this site are distance sales as defined in Article 5 of Law 1480 of 2011.
Article 47 of that law governs the right of withdrawal (derecho de retracto) in distance sales. It is deemed to be included only in contracts that “by their nature are not to be consumed, or have not begun to be performed, before five (5) days” (our translation of the Spanish text). Where it applies, it must be exercised within five business days after the service contract is concluded, and it does not apply to services whose provision has begun with the consumer's agreement.
Article 51 of the same law allows you to request the reversal of a payment made by card or another electronic payment instrument in a distance sale when there was fraud, the transaction was not requested, the service was not provided, or what was provided does not match what was offered or is defective. You must submit the request to Expotur Eco and to the issuer of your card or payment instrument within five business days of the date you learned of the problem.
Your responsibilities as a traveler
When you book and during the trip, you agree to:
- read the tour page and the booking policy before paying, and give us correct contact details and details for each traveler;
- be at the departure point at the agreed time;
- carry ID: on the tour, a photocopy of your passport or ID card is enough, and the authorities may ask for it along the way;
- carry cash, because there are no ATMs or card payments on the Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas route;
- follow your guide's or driver-guide's instructions during the tour;
- respect Wayuu communities and their territory: ask before photographing anyone, do not enter a home without an invitation, and take your trash with you;
- comply with Colombian law, especially the law that punishes the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents (see our child protection policy).
If you would like us to take a health condition, an allergy, a special diet or a mobility need into account, tell us when you book. This is optional, and we handle that information as described in our privacy policy.
Expotur Eco's responsibility
Expotur Eco is responsible for providing the contracted services under Colombia's Consumer Protection Statute (Law 1480 of 2011) and Colombian tourism regulations.
The La Guajira tours include medical assistance insurance for the duration of the trip.
Force majeure and weather
Under Article 64 of the Colombian Civil Code, force majeure or a fortuitous event (fuerza mayor o caso fortuito) is an unforeseen event that cannot be resisted. Neither you nor Expotur Eco is liable for a failure to perform caused by force majeure or a fortuitous event.
There is no paved road from Uribia to Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas: the trip is made by 4×4 on desert tracks. Rain or the condition of the tracks may mean changing the order of the stops or the schedule.
