4-day hiking to the lost city. An absolutely fantastic four-day hiking experience from start to finish! The guides (Adriana, May and the cook Anna) were amazing: attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely took time to check in with everyone in the group. Highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a well-organized, scenic and truly enjoyable hiking adventure!

Amazing. We have had the most amazing 4 days. Macario, Bryan and Ismael made sure we had everything we needed, from good food, to excellent guidance to amazing translations. The 4 days made us feel as one big happy Expotur family and they made the trip so special. I would recommend this trek to everybody visiting Colombia, 4 unforgettable days!

Amazing experience! We had an amazing 4-day expedition to the Lost City with the Maracuyas group. Everything was very well organised, with great guidance from Adriana, May, Ana and Duverney. The hike was beautiful and interesting, and meeting and talking with indigenous people along the way made the experience even more special. Highly recommended!

An unforgettable 4 day hike. Amazing 4-day hike! Adriana was a fantastic guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and always supportive. Maj was our translator and did an excellent job! They both made the experience unforgettable. Highly recommended!

Great challenging tour. We did a great trip to the Lost City in September 2026. The Expotur comms was good pre trip and our team on the hike were great (Gabriel, Brian and Luz). The hiking was hot and hilly but worth it! Food on the trip was good and surprisingly varied given it was all prepared in camp kitchens! There was lots of nice fruit and fresh juices. Our group size of ten worked really well and going in…

Lost city which has not been flooded by tourism yet! Great and well organised tour. Awesome guide and translator, Adriana and May are very kind. We had a sick girl in the team and Adriana did everything to make her journey lighter. Take a sleep sheet or sleeping bag liner because the sheets that are provided in the caps are not always clean.

Brilliant! I enjoyed this tour immensely! Omar was such a fantastic guide - knowledgable, extremely helpful and very funny. It was a beautiful trek. The hearty food was delicious and reaching the lost city was incredible. Swimming in the rivers was perfect for cooling down. Thanks to all the group! Definitely recommend if you like a challenge.

Great experience. I did the tour in september. It offers an amazing but exhausting hike with beautiful views. Everything is well organized, the food was great and the camps simple but comfortable. A big compliment to Daniel our amazing and sympathic guide and our awesome, funny translator Inti, who both did a great job and both had a big knowledge of the terrain, the plants, animals and indigenous people in that…

Great experience with skilled guide and translator. Very nice experience. Our guide Adriana was very skilled and helpfull. After the trip she even joined us to the hospital because one of the group members was ill. The translator May did an excellent job. He is very nice and was always available to help us and inform us. He was always smiling :)

Happy hour. It's an adventure! It's sweaty, it's the jungle and it's beautiful. Our guides Nelson and David were able to tell and teach us so much about the jungle and the lost city and it's history. Every day we were able to swim in the river. We slept really good and Jesus made sure we got some good food and something different everyday!

A very relaxing but sporty kids' camp like trek. I booked with Teyuna and we were only two travellers so we joined with Magic Tour who also had only two travellers and Expotur and were a group of 12 travellers which was much more fun, there was a great atmosphere. We were all so well taken care of during those four days. No responsibility, food is very generously served to your at every meal, you will never feel hungry ! There are even a fruit…

How booking works

  1. Choose the tour, the date and how many are traveling. You see the price per person and the total before you send the booking.

  2. You send the request and an advisor confirms your place. You book with 7 % of the total or pay in full.

  3. On departure day, depending on the tour, you are picked up at your lodging or met at the meeting point, in Riohacha or Santa Marta. The balance is paid as shown on the tour page.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Punta Gallinas tour?

The 3-day Punta Gallinas tour costs from COP 900,000 per person for groups of 6 or more and COP 1,650,000 per person for 2 travelers. The 4-day tour costs from COP 955,500 per person for 6 or more and COP 1,874,250 per person for 2. Both are private tours, so the price per person depends on how many travelers are in the booking. Prices include taxes.

Where do the tours start?

The La Guajira tours leave Riohacha at 8:30 a.m., and all three end there too; the Ciudad Perdida, Minca and Tayrona National Park tours leave from Santa Marta. There are no La Guajira departures from Santa Marta or Palomino, so plan to arrive in Riohacha the day before and spend the night there. Riohacha has its own airport, Almirante Padilla Airport, with commercial flights; check with the airlines for current routes.

Do the guides speak English?

Not on the La Guajira tours: they are led by local driver-guides who speak Spanish, and a translator is not included. If nobody in your group speaks Spanish, bring a translation app so you can talk with your driver-guide along the way. The itinerary, prices and policies on this site are the same in English, Spanish and French, so you know exactly what is included before you go.

How do I book?

Book on the tour page with a 7% deposit, or pay the full amount online if you prefer. Your booking then shows as pending confirmation, and an advisor confirms it within 12 hours at most. The balance is paid before or at the start of the tour, in cash or by payment link. If you have questions before booking, message us on WhatsApp.

Can children join?

Yes, from age 6 on the La Guajira tours. There is no child rate, so each child pays the per-person rate for the group and counts as one more traveler in the booking. Keep in mind that beyond Uribia the tours travel by 4×4 on desert tracks, and the nights are spent in chinchorro hammocks in Wayuu rancherías. The Ciudad Perdida tours are for ages 13 and up.

What is the difference between the 3-day and 4-day Punta Gallinas tours?

Both tours cover the Manaure salt flats, Uribia, Cabo de la Vela, Bahía Hondita, the Taroa dunes and the Punta Gallinas lighthouse. The 3-day tour spends one night in Punta Gallinas and gets back to Riohacha around 3:00 p.m. on day 3. The 4-day tour adds a second night in Punta Gallinas, with the sunset at Punta Agujas, and returns to Riohacha on day 4 after breakfast.

Where do you sleep on the tours?

On the La Guajira tours, in chinchorro hammocks in Wayuu rancherías. On all three, the first night is in Cabo de la Vela, and on the 3- and 4-day tours the following nights are in Punta Gallinas. A bed costs COP 30,000 per person per night, subject to availability. Bring a flashlight or headlamp and a light jacket for the evening, when it can get breezy.

Is it safe to travel to Punta Gallinas?

The Punta Gallinas tours travel in a 4×4 with air conditioning, with a driver-guide from the region, and include medical assistance insurance during the trip. There are no cash machines or card payments on the route, so bring cash. Before you travel, read your government's current travel advice for Colombia, and if you have a specific question about the route, message us on WhatsApp.
