Tayrona National Park closes every year from February 1 to 15, June 1 to 15 and October 19 to November 2, in periods agreed with the Indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada (Resolution 005 of 2024, in Spanish). There is no entry through any sector on those dates.

In 2026, Parques Nacionales also closed Tayrona from February 17 to March 4 because of public safety risks and restricted the Calabazo and Zaíno–Cañaveral entrances from June 16 to July 3. Since the March reopening, the Kogui Trail, between Cañaveral and Cabo San Juan, has stayed closed to the public, and the Cañaveral–Arrecifes stretch operates with intermittent passage. As of September 25, 2026, Parques Nacionales reported that the park remained open and running normally.
Before you set your date, check on the official page whether the park is open on your dates, and check again the week of your trip. Closed dates are already blocked in our booking calendar. As a second source, Hotel Parque Tayrona gathers information on closures, tickets and lodging in Tayrona.
If your trip falls during a closure, look at Minca or Ciudad Perdida, which is closed from September 28 to October 15, 2026.

There is an induction talk and registration before you enter, and beaches flying a red flag are closed to swimming.

To enter Tayrona you need proof of a yellow fever vaccine given at least 10 days before.
Because of Colombia's yellow fever health emergency, Ministry of Health Resolution 691 of 2025 requires proof of a yellow fever vaccine given at least 10 days earlier to enter natural parks in high- or very-high-risk municipalities, and Santa Marta is listed as high risk in the March 31, 2026 classification (this is the new requirement from Parques Nacionales, in Spanish). The vaccine is free in Colombia. Carry your vaccination card along with your passport or ID, and if you have questions about the vaccine, talk to your doctor.
How to get to Tayrona National Park, by entrance
There are three ways to get to Tayrona National Park from Santa Marta: on a day tour, on your own by bus or taxi, or by sea. Choose your beach first: it decides which entrance you use.

Leads toCañaveral, Arrecifes and Cabo San Juan del Guía.
The main entrance, 32 km from Santa Marta on the Troncal del Caribe highway, about 45 minutes.
Palangana
Leads toPlaya Gayraca, Neguanje and, by boat, Playa Cristal.
At km 5 of the Troncal del Caribe highway.
By bus
Ask in Santa Marta which route drops you at the entrance to the sector you plan to visit and what time the last bus back leaves. Carry the exact cash for the fare and for food.
By taxi or transfer
A taxi or private transfer drops you at the entrance you choose. Agree on the price before you set off, along with the time and place to meet for the ride back.
By boat
Playa Cristal is reached by boat from Neguanje, because the footpath isn't open to visitors. Go with a licensed operator and wear a life jacket for the whole crossing, as Parques Nacionales asks.
On a day tour
The three day tours leave from Santa Marta and include the park entrance fee: the Cabo San Juan tour, the Playa Cristal tour and the Gairaca beach tour. Expotur Eco operates them, and you can book them with Punta Gallinas Tours or book the Tayrona day trip with Expotur Eco directly.
